Christ House is thrilled to welcome Yolanda Gule as our new Director of Volunteers.
Yolanda will recruit, train, and supervise all of our wonderful volunteers including short-term and long-term volunteers, visiting student, church, and corporate groups, monthly meal groups, and Kairos Program volunteers. Christ House relies on the generosity of our volunteers to prepare and serve meals, answer telephones, lead enriching activities for patients, and complete special projects. Altogether, our volunteers contributed over 27,000 hours of service in 2016.
Get to know Yolanda:
What do you enjoy doing for fun?
Creating new recipes, reading, playing soccer with my niece and nephew in the backyard, and creating skincare products.
What energizes you?
City mornings: crisp air, birds chirping, traffic, coffee—the start of the day, people at work and all the possibilities and choices that are present.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
Funeral planning for fallen soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, several grant awards for legal and therapeutic services for victims of crime—the largest was $2.4 M, and, lastly, the opportunity to spend five years working with leaders from the medical device industry. For example, John Brown from Medtronic, Tim Ring from C.R. Bard and Charles Fleischman from Digene—it was an invaluable and unique experience!
What is one your favorite restaurant in D.C.?
What are you most looking forward to about working with volunteers at Christ House?
Teamwork and collaborating with talented staff members who share the same vision and purpose to provide services to a vulnerable (but thriving) population.
What drew you to this position?
The opportunity to meet new people and connect with their purpose, values, and spirituality. It’s a powerful experience!
