In 2014, Christ House treated 32 patients with cancer. This fall, we’re focused on sustaining our capacity to help those facing this aggressive disease.
Almost every person in the United States is affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly through a friend or family member’s diagnosis. We know the toll that cancer can take on a person’s energy, resources, and hope. Now imagine an individual who is living on the streets or in a shelter, whose resources are extremely limited, and whose personal relationships are strained. For this person, a cancer diagnosis is too much to handle on their own.
Christ House welcomes those fighting cancer and is committed to those who are diagnosed after they’ve entered our doors. Our staff creates a care and support system to give patients the best possible chance at a full recovery. We coordinate with specialized medical providers to build an appropriate treatment plan, apply for insurance coverage, strive to reconnect patients with family and friends, transport patients to and from appointments, provide three healthy meals each day, and offer pastoral care and counseling.
We received a $150,000 grant from The Alexander and Margaret Stewart Trust for cancer care, but we need an additional $250,000 to fully fund this year’s expenses. Your donation between September 1st and October 31st will help to ensure that we can continue providing all aspects of treatment and support that are necessary for our patients struggling with cancer.
