“Break Me”: A Poem by Daniel, Kairos Member

August 15, 2019

Since Daniel joined the Kairos community in May of 2018, we’ve discovered that he has a passion for writing, especially poetry. Daniel says that he can recall every poem he has written because each piece conveys his most powerful feelings. He read this beautiful poem at New Day Graduation last Wednesday, and graciously agreed to share it on the Christ House blog. Enjoy!

Break Me

It was last night while I was praying that I asked my dear Lord…

You are the potter and I am the clay.

You make me out of dirt.

Do with me what you want.

Do with me what you wish.

But please break me into pieces,

And make of me a brand new being.

And this is what he said to me.

I don’t like who you became,

Therefore,

I’m going to grant you your wish.

I’m going to break you into pieces,

And I’m going to form you again.

And through this process I’m going to make you cry,

Until you realize that there are five things I want…

I want your love,

And since you don’t know me,

I want you to show me your love by serving them all.

I want your praise,

Instead of your complaints.

I want you to smile,

When you think that everything is going wrong.

I want your trust,

In the middle of the storm.

I want you to forgive,

Whoever has done you wrong.

Once you learn how to do this,

You will cry no more.

This is my promise,

And I don’t break my word.
