At Christ House, our mission has always been rooted in unwavering compassion and dedication to our patients. Our upcoming event on Thursday, September 26, 2024, Turning Toward the Sun, will capture the essence of this nearly four-decade long commitment. Much like the sunflower, which instinctively turns toward the sun to seek light and growth, the Christ House community has continually aligned itself to focus on our core values and mission throughout our 39 years of operation.
The sunflower is a powerful symbol of resilience and the pursuit of light. As the neighborhood around Christ House has transformed, as policies addressing healthcare and homelessness have shifted, and even as we navigated the uncertainty brought on by a global pandemic, Christ House has remained steadfast in our purpose—remaining resilient and providing healing and hope for our patients experiencing homelessness. We have, time and again, realigned ourselves—just as a sunflower does—to focus on what matters most: the care and support of our patients with acute medical needs.
This powerful symbol of the sunflower also holds special significance in the story of Christ House as Dr. Janelle Goetchues, our founding visionary, holds the sunflower as her favorite flower, a personal symbol of the resilience and dedication that Christ House embodies. Additionally, Sr. Marcella, one of our founding members, belongs to the religious order Sister of Notre Dame de Namur whose flower is the sunflower, a testament to the light and hope that guided her Christ House journey for 38 years.
As we continue to turn toward the sun, let us honor the journey of our patients, whose strength and resilience inspire us all. Their stories of overcoming adversity and finding light in times of challenge provide us with renewed hope and drive our mission forward. Just as the sunflower turns to the sun, Christ House will always turn to its mission providing comprehensive and compassionate care for unhoused patients in need of acute medical care.
We hope you will join us at St. Francis Hall on September 26 to witness the resilience of our patients and permanent housing members. The evening will include inspiring stories, a silent auction, music, a delicious meal, and the chance to connect with fellow supporters who share a commitment for making a difference in the lives of Christ House patients. We hope to see you there!
