We’re excited to introduce you to Christ House’s new Executive Chef, Miri Jung!
Miri will supervise and oversee all aspects of our full-service kitchen and dining room, which includes meal planning and shopping for groceries (among many other things). She will work with our kitchen volunteers and incorporate donations into the menu with the goal of creating nutritious meals for our patients.
Let’s get to know Miri.
What inspires your cooking?
“I grew up in Texas eating a lot of beef in Texas-size portions, but I was raised by traditional Korean parents who can eat nothing but their homegrown veggies, kimchi and rice. Comfort food is my go-to, but that doesn’t always mean it has to be a big plate of carbs and meat. Vegetables can also be great when cooked similarly as meat. Charring and browning is a technique I use pretty regularly for greens and root vegetables.”
What is your vision for the Christ House kitchen?
“To utilize our resources to the best that we can. Whether the food comes from volunteers, donors, farmers markets, or nearby grocery stores, trying to find a good source for fresh produce is my pet project at the moment. As much as possible, I want to make meals with lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein to give our patients the nutritional support that they need to recover and grow strong.
I look forward to seeing you around Christ House. In the meantime, enjoy a recipe for one of my favorite seasonal salads!”
