Do you have a skill or store of knowledge that you would like to teach others? Do you want to spend time getting to know some of our patients? We hope you consider serving as a Patient Activity Facilitator at Christ House.
Patient activities are part of the holistic support offered to patients at Christ House. Activities foster patient healing, cultivate community, and create enduring memories for patients and volunteer facilitators alike.
One of our facilitators, Tommy, has been leading Bingo with patients for years. A member of the Kairos Program, Tommy understands “how important it is to occupy your time” as a patient at Christ House, and how helpful it can be “to have something to do.” Tommy explains that since many patients remain indoors during their stay, “it’s good for them to have something to do inside…Sometimes a patient will need someone to talk to, and we [volunteers] befriend them.” For Tommy, facilitating patient activities is “a way of giving back.”
Now that the 2021-22 Year Long Volunteers have completed their year of service, Christ House is seeking more volunteers to facilitate patient activities on a regular basis. Opportunities include art class, science class, poetry class, Wii video games, and movie screenings. We are also seeking barbers with experience cutting all hair types to provide haircuts for our patients. If any of these opportunities interest you, we invite you to create an account on VolunteerHub by clicking here.
Are you interested in volunteering, but unavailable to serve during the shifts currently listed? Do you have new ideas for other patient activities that you would be willing to facilitate? Please reach out to our Volunteer Department at volunteers@christhouse.org; we would be glad to explore the possibilities.
