A Christ House Summer Reflection

August 4, 2018

This summer at Christ House we were privileged to welcome two summer interns from InterVarsity. One intern, Carissa, when asked to reflect on her time here, composed a letter to Christ House. We are thrilled to share it with you!

Dear Christ House,

I hope this letter finds you all in good or improving health. While my time as a volunteer here was short, I will always remember the smiling faces that greeted me every time I walked through the house. I’ll remember the staff’s dedication to the residents’ well-being and the peaceful environment that fostered it. I’ll fondly remember the interactions, conversations, and laughs shared with the men of Christ House.

Being an activities coordinator, I had the opportunity to spend time with the residents, to learn from them, and to hear about life from their point of view. Whether that be during a game of cards, an activity, kitchen duty, community meetings, or just chatting in the sun room, I enjoyed being part of the community. Honestly, I’d say my favorite part of Christ House was the love and care evident between each member.

At Christ House, I was constantly reminded that being can be just as important as doing. Often times, a conversation with one of the men brightened my day and (I hope) brightened theirs. It can be easy to overlook the value of being present in the moment, but sometimes being present and aware is all that is really needed. While I didn’t learn every resident’s story or their struggle, I am honored to have played a role during this season of healing in their life. My hope is that this is not a ‘farewell’ but rather an ‘until next time.’

Sending many blessings,

Carissa
